Salem – Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) debuted the first round of its “16 in ’16: Races to Watch.” Comprised of the RSLC’s Future Majority Project (FMP) and Right Women, Right Now (RWRN) candidates running for state-level office around the country this year. The list recognizes rising stars in the party who represent the full diversity and depth of our electorate. The RSLC’s FMP and RWRN initiatives aim to identify, recruit and support women candidates at the state level.
RWRN Co-Chair and Iowa Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds stated of this first round of candidates: “I am thrilled to see such a strong slate of accomplished and qualified women candidates vying to represent the GOP in state-level office this fall. Because of initiatives like RWRN, this number continues to grow yearly. In fact, this cycle, RWRN shattered its goal of recruiting and identifying over 500 potential women candidates. Many of those brilliant women are on this list today, and I am honored to stand with them.”
Laura Morett, candidate for HD20 is the first of Oregonian candidates to be named. House district 20 includes Monmouth, Independence and parts of west and south Salem. In response to the news Laura said “I am excited and encouraged by this national recognition. It is an honor and I look forward to working hard for the constituents in House District 20.”
An accomplished small business owner, Laura is a lifetime Oregonian, and has also worked in the legal field further qualifying her as a well-rounded candidate ready to bring common sense leadership to the Oregon state capitol. She lives in Salem with her husband Dan. They have three children and two grandchildren.
