As I have spoken with residents throughout HD20, visited with state agencies directors, toured local non-profits and attended countless community events I remain amazed and blessed that we live in such a caring region. From our children, our mothers and fathers, our public safety to our hungry and our homeless; people are concerned about a brighter healthier future for everyone.
This Wednesday, the 31st the greater Salem community is hosting its 7th annual Veterans Stand Down at the Salem First Baptist Church. It’s the only fair of its kind for veterans in the Mid-Valley. Here again testament to the goodness of people – a group of community organizations have joined together to bring an army of services together under one roof to ease the burden on veterans. This is an event just for veterans of the U.S. military, and their family.
In addition to helping vets to enroll in the VA, learn about the Veterans Center; find medical and dental services, get housing assistance, pet care, military surplus, and Social Security information; vets will have an opportunity to meet with representatives from 10 local companies. These companies will be ready to hire veterans at 11 AM on Wednesday. An employment preparation workshop will be offered at 9:30, which will offer tips for getting a job including how to prepare a resume and mock interview scenarios.
There may still be opportunities to volunteer; for all the details please visit their website at – http://www.sovah.org/stand-down
A heartfelt thank you for those who have planned and will serve our veterans at the Veterans Stand Down this Wednesday, August 31.
Keeping the faith,
